There is a reason…

Like everyone else, I have a viewpoint, an opinion and a range of beliefs that encompass them. That doesn’t stop me from being completely wrong, it just makes it difficult for me to understand why I’m wrong.
Or maybe I’m just stubborn. I try not to be but when you enter your forties you begin to lose that youthful flexibility of opinions and views that you’ve so far managed to discard without much outward effort. Things like Marxism, organized religion or Santa Claus. Or all three.
This is a blog about things I find difficulty in accepting simply because someone in authority tells me it must be so. Sometimes that someone knows as much about a subject as I do. Sometimes the person knows more than me but expresses themselves poorly. Sometimes I’m just stubborn.
I was going to call this “The completely bloodyminded unwillingness to accept other people’s statements without analysing them” but the software nearly crashed.
This blog is about philosophy, science, religion, mathematics, politics and anything else that comes to mind. Sometimes I’ll posting my e-mail just so you know I’m not faking it.
Sometimes the posts will simply be statements, with references, of known facts or propositions widely accepted to be true, but trust me, I will get to the point eventually. In order to challenge a proposition, you must first understand what is being proposed. If it seems like I’m just taking notes without making a point there and then, just accept it: it’s the way my mind works.
I don’t expect my future readers and commenters to agree with me, but I do expect them to keep things civil and to the point. If you can’t manage that, then there’s a zillion other blogs out there to inflict yourselves upon rather than this one, and I’ll help you make the transition as well at no extra charge.
One final policy statement: Any mistakes, faux pas or unpopular opinions in posts on this site are mine and mine alone, and do not reflect the views of anyone else. The comments reflect either well or badly on the commenters but not necessarily on me.
