What’s missing from the picture? Our memories are being reprogrammed.

I completely agree with Roger Ebert on this one

It’s funny, but even though I quit smoking soon after I was diagnosed with cancer and the cravings stopped completely in a few weeks, since the doctors put me on steroids as part of my chemotherapy treatment I have been hanging out for cigarettes something chronic (and continue to refuse to have one).

People smoking around me do nothing at all to increase my desire for a cigarette – in fact if anything they increase my determination not to do so – I find the smell puts me off, making it easier to deal with the cravings.

Air brushing the fag out of a classic pic like that because of some weird idea that it will somehow contaminate peoples minds and make them smoke is ‘political correctness’ taken to an idiotic extreme.

  2. Both my parents died of cancer, and one at least was convinced that smoking was the reason. (That’s exactly like Roger Ebert’s story).

But to claim that smoking never existed is just stupid. Its a dangerous game when you start messing with history.

By the way, Carl – my best wishes for your treatment and your recovery. Stay strong and beat this thing.
